Area of Focus: Holocaust Education

ln being a teacher of history, Larry Grimes became interested in the Holocaust about seven years ago while he traveled in Eastern Europe. He attended several workshops and seminars during the next several years. This is where his education began. He met Carl Wilkens and traveled to Rwanda twice with him. Grimes was an Alfred Lerner Fellow through the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous and was named Holocaust Educator of the Year in 2010. Grimes has done extensive traveling over the past five years in locations affected by genocide. In 2013 he became a USHMM Teacher fellow. Grimes will use his 2014 Carl Wilkens Fellowship year to distribute awareness and education to teachers, as well as, political officials concerning present and past mass atrocities. Currently, Grimes is serving as the Museum Educator and Resource Coordinator at the Florida Holocaust Museum in Tampa-St. Petersburg, Florida.
