Barbara Baker is from Midwest. She is the first in her family to attend college and obtain a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and doctorate of education. Because of early experiences with abuses and equalities related to race, class, and gender, Barbara has passion for social justice activism that has inspired her career as an educator. She is currently employed at Berkshire Community as a program coordinator for Project Link which is a college transition program to GED graduates. In addition, she enjoys creative writing and theatre.
Baker will use her 2014 Carl Wilkens’ Fellowship to develop a radio show entitled, “Out of our Comfort” Zone to promote awareness on genocide and inspire humanitarian leadership. The program will focus on “how to” develop our comfort zone from beyond “our own front doors” to global perspectives on social justice issues.
